Beartooth Basin Opening Day 2025
Opening day at Beartooth Basin was all-time! Joey, Ian, and I made the last-minute call the night before to jet out there for opening day, which landed on a Wednesday. With a 5am alarm, I groggily rummaged through my nightstand drawer and found a roll of unused black and white 35mm film, which would be my tool of choice for documenting the day. While skiing we found untracked corn and plenty of steep, techy turns and airs to keep us occupied. I was pretty sore the next few days…
This was Beartooth Basin’s first time opening in three years. It’s an awesome operation fueled by passion, biodiesel, and constant elbow grease from the patrollers/lift operators to keep the rope tows spinning. From what I gather, the basin has to operate at least once every three years for the Forest Service lease to stay active, so this year was happening no matter what. Beartooth Basin’s short-lived two week season was great, though, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
